Year of the Rat Mini Calendars

This is the first year that I've gotten my supply mini calendars in so early...so, please bear with me as I'm in "calendar mode" right now...

To make these simple easel calendars...start with a 2-1/2" x 9-3/8" piece of cardstock.  Score at 1", 2", 5-1/2" and 9".  Fold along scored lines as shown in the photo below and glue tab to finish.  This project uses a 1-1/2" x 1-3/4" calendar.

Card to Favor

I was playing around with the idea of turning one of our stamp designs..."Peony" from cling set, Flower Girls (CL-16)...into a 3D version of it as a favor.

It's a fun project and a little different from the usual paper projects I do.  Below are the supplies I used to make these favors.  I used a 1-1/2" circle as the base...I stamped and colored the peony stamp and didn't cut out the whole design as I wanted the image to fit right into the candy cup.  I cut 18 squares of crepe paper measuring 1-1/4" wide by 1-1/2" tall  (with the grain of the crepe paper running vertically).  Then I cut each petal into a kind of heart shaped piece.   Next I gently stretched the center of each petal to form a rounded shape petal...then gently pulled the top edge of each petal to give it a ruffled look.

I also cut 2 leaf shapes measuring approximately 1-1/4" x 1-3/4" (Crepe paper is very forgiving, so don't worry if your cutting is crooked or lopsided :)

First, glue the 2 leaves on to the base piece:

For the first layer of petals, use 7 pieces and glue them around the edge of the circle base...making sure each petal slightly overlaps the previous one:

For the second layer, use 6 petals and glue them closer to the center of the circle.  Also, make sure you don't glue one petal directly over a petal from the first layer...try to center it between 2 petals from the previous layer:

For the third and last layer, I rolled the bottom edge of each petal before I glued them onto the base so that it would form a tighter layer in the center

After that I just taped a candy cup to the center of the flower...added some candies..and stuck my stamped image right in the center.

Happy Weekend!!

Just stopping by to share a pattern to make this cute box with a flip top.  The stamp I used for this first box is from Love & Hugs (CL-22).  I cut out a couple of extra flowers to dangle from the end of the cords and covered them all in glossy accents.

You can add some cash or gift cards to give to your favorite world traveler...
Stamps used:  Awesome Trip (SC-16) and Airplane (#6071)

Click here to get a copy of the pattern.  You know the routine...cut along the solid lines and fold along the dotted ones :)  I altered the pattern a bit so I could get different paper patterns on the box and cover.  To do that, cut the cover out of one paper 1/4" below the bottom dotted line (as shown below):

Add double stick tape to the tabs...

Cut the box piece out of a different patterned paper along the pink lines below (of course, if you are using just one paper, then just cut the entire pattern piece out).

Use a die or punch to make a window if  you choose, and tape some acetate to the backside of the window...add double stick tape to the four tabs, as shown below:

Then simply tape the cover and box together:

Adhere the box sides...

Then adhere the tabs on the cover piece.  Add your stamped image and tie a ribbon to finish the box off.

Stamp is from You Make Me Smile (MC-58)

A Little Thank You...

Some simple instructions for a simple gift...

Cut two pieces...the back piece will measure 1-3/4" x 5-1/2".  The front piece will measure 2-1/2" x 4-1/8".  On the front piece, score 3/8" away from the two side edges and the bottom edge.  Cut each of the bottom corners diagonally...right where the two scored lines meet.

Fold each of the three tabs up and make sharp creases.

Flip from piece over and glue onto bottom piece, matching sides and bottom edges.

On the samples, I used watercolors to make a background and stamped with cling stamp "Extra-Special" (#SC-14), and finished it all off with some twine.

Inkjoy mini pens fit perfectly into this little holder :)

Dog House

Here's a quick and easy favor for your next dog-themed party!!  Click here for a pattern.

Cut along solid lines and fold along dotted lines.  Apply double stick tape to each of the 6 tabs.  Punch 1/8" holes as indicated by the dots on the pattern (2 holes on the house and 2 holes on the roof).  Cut a small piece of acetate measuring 1-1/2" wide and 1-1/4" tall.  Glue your dog  in the center.  Add foam dots to each corner (I'm using really small dots but if you have a larger size, just cut to the right size...you just don't want the foam dots visible through the dog house opening).

Adhere the first two tabs to the dog house front.  Position the acetate piece with your dog image to the inside of the opening...centered in the opening with feet on the ground.

Adhere the next 2 tabs to the back of the dog house.

Adhere half the roof to the last 2 tabs.

Cut a 9" piece of cord or ribbon.  Starting from the inside of the house, thread each end of the cord through the 2 holes...continue each end through each hole in the roof.  Insert your treats and tie the cord into a bow.
