Maddy at the Beach

If today is any indication...summer is on it's way!! It's a hot, humid day here in Hawaii...perfect beach weather!! I used some All Natural Accent palm fronds I got from Brian at Photo Craft on this card. Can't you just feel the cool trade winds blowing?

Sliding Gift Card Box

Popping in to share the make 'n take project we did at the Market City Ben Franklin over the weekend. I'll do my best to explain it as clearly as I can...I took a lot of pictures, so I hope that will help too!!! We made a little box that slides open to reveal a gift card inside (of course, you can use your imagination to put other little surprises inside!!!).

To download the first 2 pieces you'll need for this project, click here. You'll also need 2 additional pieces cut from cardstock. Cut one piece to measure 1" x 4-1/8" and the other piece to measure 1" x 2-1/2" (Make 2 scored lines on this second piece at 3/4" and 1-7/8"). Cut along solid lines and fold along dotted lines. Shown below are the 4 pieces for the project:

Place double stick tape in the places shown in the photo above. For the first (pink) piece, use scotch tape to attach a 12" piece of ribbon as shown. (Please also note placement of the ribbon...this is important too!!)

The photo above shows the box that will hold the gift card. Remove the backing paper from the 4 pieces of double stick tape. First fold over and secure the tabs on the long sides of the box. Then fold in the two tiny tabs at each corner...catch those two tabs when you fold over the remaining tabs on the short sides of the box.

Put the box, face down, onto the piece with the ribbon attached. Remove the backing from the double stick tape and wrap the pink piece around your box piece and secure. (Make sure it's tight enough so that the box won't fall out, but loose enough so the box can slide in and out.) This is how it should look now:

For the next step you'll be working on the 2 pieces of cardstock you cut out. On the longer piece, stamp your sentiment on the left side. Wrap the shorter piece around the longer piece, and secure with double stick tape. This will form the sliding mechanism to pull the box out:

Next, Flip your cardstock piece over and place half a pop dot on each end, as shown below:

Remove the backing from the pop dot and place as shown below. Also, make sure the box is closed, the ribbon is pulled taut and the slider is as far to the right as possible.

For the next step...pull the ribbon to the left, over the box and tape it in place on the slider:

Now loop the ribbon around and tape in place once more on the slider piece: (you can trim off the end of the ribbon).

Now simply use a pop dot to mount your stamped image on top of the slider:

Use the loop to pull the slider to the left...the box slides open to the right:

You may have to play with it for awhile. I find that pulling the box open and closed a few times will make it slide more smoothly. Hope that made sense!!...please send me an email if you have any questions.

Stamps used: #C118 (Baxter) and #4016 (Script Happy Birthday).

I also have some fun things to share (made with Dandelion stamps!!) Here are some cute creations I received from Susy!!!

Brownies!!! Yum!!!

Susy also made this adorable gift box filled with buttons and flowers...she even made those super cute crocheted flowers in there!!!! I didn't even realize (til later) that she used my rosebud stamp on the box...I thought it was printed paper!!! Thanks, Susy!!!

The next card is from Tina:

Oh so cute!!! Just looking at this card makes me happy!!! Thanks, Tina...it makes me feel like stamping now...I'll share whatever I make with you tomorrow!!!

A Thank You, A Pattern and a Link

I guess the title explains it all...first, here's a little thank you that I've been meaning to send out:

Here's what the inside looks like:

Next...the pattern. A lot of you have been asking for a pattern for the Mother's Day magnet box. Well...here you go...click here to get one. Just cut on the solid lines and fold along the dotted lines. I used a Marvy (yellow) circle punch for the opening and backed it with a 1-3/4" x 1-3/4" piece of acetate. Use double stick tape along the tabs to close. I also used a pop dot to hold the magnet in place. I used an All Night Media pop dot...but, I think it was a little too thick...try to find a thinner one if you can.

And last, but not least...here's a link I'd like to share with you. Stop by and visit Jenny's blog (Crazy for Paper Crafting). She is on a roll creating a bunch of cute cards and paper clips using Dandelion stamps!!! You gotta see what she did!!! Enjoy and have a great day!!!

Boxed Magnets

OK...here's a picture I promised of the boxed Mother's Day magnets...remember you have until midnight tonight (Hawaii time) to enter the drawing. Please enter on the post below. I am really enjoying reading all your sweet and touching comments...thank you for sharing with me!!!

Here are some quotes I'd like to leave you with...

What took me by surprise is the way I feel when her face lights up when I walk into a room because I am her world and she is mine. Being a mother is like taking your heart out of your chest and watching it walk around.
-- Author Unknown

The patience of a mother might be likened to a tube of toothpaste - it's never quite all gone.
-- Author Unknown

The greatest thing she'd learned over the years is that there's no way to be a perfect mother, but a million ways to be a good one.
-- Author Unknown

My mother is my root, my foundation. She planted the seed that I base my life on, and that is the belief that the ability to achieve starts in your mind.
-- Michael Jordan

It's so good to know that wherever you are, a Mom is with you in spirit and in love.

If at first you don't succeed, do it the way your mother told you to.

Mother's Day Magnets

I picked up these glass marbles from Ben Franklin many months ago when I saw how they made them into cute magnets. I finally dragged them out last night to try my hand at it...and couldn't stop!! I decided to make the whole bag because once they go back into my craft bin...they may never come out again!! Then I thought Mother's Day would be the perfect time to do a giveaway...

It's just a tiny little thing...but, if you would like to win one just leave me a comment by midnight on Saturday, May 9. Tell me the best Mother's Day gift you've ever given or received (or hope to receive!!). I'm also working on some kind of holder/container for these magnets, but thought I'd better post the magnets first, since time is short. You won't get the magnets by Mother's Day...but, at least I can announce the winners on Mother's Day!! There are 20 magnets, so I'll draw 20 winners at random and announce their names on Sunday, May 10.

To make the magnets, I traced around the edge of the marble on some printed paper and cut it out. I stamped, colored and cut some images and glued them on the printed paper. Then I spread clear glue all over the top of the stamped image (I used Tombow Mono Aqua glue), and attached it to the marble. I brushed some Mod Podge over the back and attached a magnet. Then I smeared some Stickles Crystal glitter glue over the top of the marble. Here's a closer look:

Good luck to all...I'll post a picture of the magnets in their holders when I finish them

Mother's Day

I don't know where the time is going...I can't believe that Mother's Day is already this Sunday!!! Time to get on the ball!!! Here are a couple of ideas, in case you're running behind like me!!! I knew I wanted to get this Martha Stewart fence punch when I saw it on Cheryl's blog. (I got mine at Crafts in the City). I incorporated the punch into a simple box pattern that you can download here. Just cut along the solid lines and fold along the dotted lines. Use double stick tape on the 4 tabs. Be sure to punch the front edge with the fence punch before you tape the box together.

I decorated some mini clothespins with flowers and bugs to keep with the garden look of the white picket fence...and filled some bags with spring colored m&m's.

Using the same box, I made a little stationery set. I made a set of 4 tri-fold cards with coordinating stickers. You can get these stickers at any office supply store...the kind you use for files.

Here's a closer look at what's inside:

Stamps used: #1022 (Bee), #1023 (Butterfly, #3027 (Ladybug), #4039 (Snail) and #1301 (Happy Mom's Day). Have a great day!!!
