Here We Go...

Welcome to Day 1 of our new designs...we'll start off with a little project using food storage bags. Who knew that wrapping up your leftover dinner could lead to a new project?

They're not air tight, but I thought it was cool to use the sliding mechanism from these plastic bags to create some useful bags. Here's one made into a pen case (to carry to stamping dates, or to give as a gift):

And another made into a Halloween treat:

To make this project, I cut off just the top of the plastic bag. I put double stick tape on both sides of the plastic bag (you'll have to play with the slider to get the double stick tape underneath it...see photo, below).

Click here for a pattern. I'm using a quart-sized plastic bag for this project...and the pattern is for a bag with a finished size of 8-1/4" x 3"...of course, you can adjust the pattern to make the bag deeper or shallower. Cut along the solid lines and fold along the dotted ones...use double stick tape on the two tabs to put the paper part of the bag together. Then simply remove the backing paper from the double stick tape on the plastic bag (one side at a time), and adhere to the paper bag. You'll have to fiddle around with the slider again to get the paper under the slider.

And now for the giveaway...here's what's up for grabs:

Leave me a comment by midnight (Hawaii time) tomorrow, Wed. August 18...help me catch up on what you've been up to...tell me the highlight of your summer. I'll pick one winner at random and announce their name on Thursday, August 19.

Oh...one more thing. I've been meaning to share with you some cute projects done by Karen on her blog, Have a Scrap Happy Day using Dandelion stamps!!! So cute...thanks for sharing your work, Karen!!!

  17. Your kokeshi dolls are super cute, Jean and I like the idea of the recylced bag.

The highlight of my summer was clearing up clutter in my family room. Besides doing papercraft I also like to sew and have been storing fabrics from 20 years ago but finally let go and donated it to our church. It was sad to see it go but now my grandchildren have more room to play and it's like a whole lot of weight has been lifted. Now my next project is to start clearing up the clutter with papercraft - that might be harder.

  18. Wow what a great idea, so clever. Ahhh these set of stamps are so cute just in time for halloween. Well here is my highlight of my summer, I manage to get some house cleaning and organizating around the house since I had 1 week of vacation and we also had some visitors from the mainland. I also got to see Johnny Depp in person at Kaneohe Bay, but couldn't wait much longer for his arrival since my son complain he was hungry and needed to head home since it was a school night. Well at least we got to see the Black Pearl but Johnny Depp would be exciting to see. Hope you had a great summer too.
